Christmas: Part Two “NYC”

“Merry Christmas ya filthy animal… and a happy new year”. If you don’t know where this quote comes from, we cannot be friends. Okay, that’s not true, we can definitely still be friends, but be warned I will be recommending watching Home Alone and Home Alone 2:Lost in New York every Christmas! My bucket list item of visiting New York City during Christmastime definitely had a lot to do with all the amazing shots taken in the movie Home Alone 2! New York, in general, has always seemed pretty amazing to me, but visiting during the Christmas season is like the icing on the cake!

Thankfully, a good friend of mine lives right near there. Erin was my first roommate in college and we have kept in touch ever since. Since she moved to New York we’ve had several conversations about me visiting her and 2016 just happened to be the year that made it happen! Luckily, my best friend Katie also had the same obsession about visiting NYC during Christmastime (also stemmed in large part by Home Alone 2) and decided to make the epic journey with me! We bought plane tickets early in the year so there was no backing out! Erin was the captain of our NYC bucket list voyage. She planned our days like she had been living in NYC her whole life. She was such a huge help, an amazing hostess, and an excellent tour guide.

Some of our highlights included: seeing THE Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center (it wasn’t as huge as I thought it was going to be but still spectacular), going to the “Top of the Rock” (I’m slightly afraid of heights so this was kinda scary) and seeing NYC from above, watching The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall (ah-mazing! Best show ever), eating NY cheesecake, and NY pizza, and NY bagels!! Yummm! Eating the famous frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, visiting The Met, taking an Uber ride for the first time (because driving in NYC is crazy!), watching a play on Broadway, visiting The Plaza, Grand Central Station, Central Park, sitting on Santa’s lap in Macy’s which is on 34th Street (in honor of Miracle on 34th Street), I even ate chestnuts roasting on an open fire! And the cherry on top, it snowed while we were there! I was praying the whole time that it would snow and God decided to grant this Southern girl’s plea! It was such a memorable experience that was made even sweeter by being in the company of great friends! Thank you Casey for watching Anna so I could go be the ultimate NYC Christmas tourist, thank you Erin and Jeremy for opening your home to me and driving us all around, and thank you Katie for being just as crazy as me and joining me on this amazing trip!
