I love Christmas! It is one of my favorite times of the year. It never loses its excitement for me. I love being able to celebrate Jesus and his birth, the true reason for the season. I love decorating and all the memories that begin to flow just from opening a box of ornaments. I love buying gifts for loved ones, and Christmas songs, and Christmas movies (hands up if you love Hallmark Christmas movies!). I also love this time of year because it allows me to take a break from my work schedule and enjoy time off with my family and friends. I was able to take two trips this past year that have always been on my bucket list. I went on The Polar Express with Anna and my family and then I was able to go to New York City during primetime Christmas season! Since I’m a photographer nad I take way too many pictures even during non-business hours, I’m going to break this Christmas post into parts.
First up, let’s talk about getting into the Christmas spirit. The weekend before Thanksgiving, Anna and I got to go and ride the Polar Express in North Carolina. (I would highly suggest this activity if you have small kids or if you are a big kid at heart, it was fantastic!) This was a Christmas gift from Gigi (Casey’s mama) to Anna. Our party consisted of a bunch of lovely ladies plus kids from Casey’s side of the family. Besides the excitement of just being able to get to ride on the Polar Express, we also ended up staying in a yurt! A yurt! I had never heard of such a thing! It was such a fun way to camp (more like “glamping”). The mountain views were gorgeous and it was a nice break before the crazy holiday season! Trips like this are made even more special by seeing them through the eyes of your child. After our luxurious night in a yurt, we got decked out in our festive Christmas jammies and boarded the Polar Express with our golden tickets! Anna was so brave, she wasn’t afraid of Santa, she loved the train, and holding that silver bell, and eating cookies! She was singing and dancing to her heart’s content. It warmed this momma’s heart to the core. The town with the train station was decorated for Christmas and you couldn’t help but be in a jolly Christmas mood. We were sad to have to leave but so thankful for Gigi’s sweet gift! This is a memory we will never forget!
